Qatar offers a seamless travel experience through its diverse and modern transportation network, which includes the state-of-the-art Doha Metro and Lusail Tram, an extensive public bus system, readily available taxis and ride-sharing services, and eco-friendly electric scooters for short-distance travel.
Qatar Rail is the state-owned company responsible for developing and managing Qatar's extensive and modern railway network. Established in 2011, the company oversees three major projects that form the backbone of the nation's public transportation system: the Doha Metro, the Lusail Tram, and the long-distance rail project. These initiatives are a crucial part of the Qatar National Vision 2030, aimed at providing a sustainable and efficient transport infrastructure for the country's growing population
The Doha Metro is a rapid transit system serving Doha and its suburbs, known for its high-speed, driverless trains.
Lines: The network currently has three operational lines (Phase 1):
Red Line (Coastal Line): Runs from Lusail in the north to Al Wakra in the south, connecting to Hamad International Airport (HIA T1).
Green Line (Education Line): Runs from Al Mansoura in the east to Al Riffa (Mall of Qatar) in the west.
Yellow Line (Historic Line): Runs from Ras Bu Abboud in the east to Al Aziziyah in the west, passing through cultural and historical landmarks.
Interchange Station: Msheireb Station is the central hub where all three lines (Red, Green, and Gold) meet. Al Bidda Station is an interchange for the Red and Green lines.
Stations: There are 37 stations currently active.
Speed: The trains are among the fastest driverless systems in the world, capable of reaching 100 km/h.
The Lusail Tram is a modern tram network that provides convenient transportation within the new city of Lusail. It is designed to be an eco-friendly mode of transport and is integrated with the Doha Metro, allowing for seamless transfers.
Network: The Lusail Tram network is being rolled out in phases, with several lines planned to serve the various districts of Lusail.
"Karwa" is the brand name for the public transport services operated by Mowasalat, Qatar's state-owned transportation company. This includes a comprehensive network of buses and a large fleet of taxis.
The Karwa bus service offers an extensive network of routes that cover Doha and extend to other parts of Qatar. The buses are modern, air-conditioned, and an economical way to travel. To use the bus service, passengers need to purchase a Karwa Smart Card.
Karwa taxis are the official and most recognizable taxis in Qatar, with their distinctive turquoise color. They are a reliable and metered taxi service that can be hailed on the street, found at taxi ranks, or booked through the Karwa Taxi app.
For shorter distances and exploring specific areas, electric scooter rental services are becoming increasingly popular in Qatar. These app-based services offer a fun, flexible, and environmentally friendly way to get around. Several companies operate in designated zones, allowing users to easily pick up and drop off scooters.
