Qatar is divided into eight municipalities (baladiyat), which serve as the primary administrative divisions. Doha: The capital and most populous municipality, located on the eastern coast. It is the economic, cultural, and political heart of the nation. Al Rayyan: The second-largest municipality, situated west of Doha. It is a vast area that includes suburban districts of Doha as well as rural and desert areas.

Al Wakrah: Located south of Doha, this municipality is known for its historic pearling port and is rapidly growing with new developments.

Al Khor: Situated on the northeast coast, it is known for its harbor, beaches, and the Al Khor Park & Zoo.

Umm Salal: Located to the north of Doha, this municipality contains historical sites like the Barzan Towers.

Al Daayen: Situated between Doha and Al Khor, this municipality includes the modern city of Lusail and its iconic stadium.

Al Shamal: This is the northernmost municipality and includes Ras Rakan, the northernmost point of the Qatari peninsula.

Al Shahaniya: The newest municipality, established in 2014. It is located in the west-central part of the country and is known for camel racing.
